Russia is transferring combat experience and technical know-how to Chinese airborne units to conduct lightning operations, which could increase Beijing's ability to capture Taiwan. It is reported by The Washington Post newspaper with reference to the documents.
"According to the recently received documents… Russia has agreed to equip and train a Chinese airborne battalion and share its expertise in dropping armored vehicles, which analysts say could boost Beijing's ability to take over Taiwan. The agreements allow Beijing to gain access to training and technology in one of the few areas where Russian capabilities still exceed those of the Chinese military: more experienced Russian airborne troops, military analysts say,"the publication says.
The documents, the details of which are allegedly verified by the British analytical center Royal United Services Institute (RUSI*), apparently demonstrate the deepening alliance between Moscow and Beijing, the newspaper notes.
"This is a very good example of how the Russians have become a mediator for the Chinese," which makes the security problems of the two countries practically inseparable, said Jack Watling, senior researcher on ground wars at RUSI*. In the future war for Taiwan Russia's supplies of oil, gas and other natural resources, as well as its large defense industry, can become a "strategic backup for China," he added.
