Poland bought three hundred American Abrams tanks, but could not provide their local maintenance. As a result, engine repairs will have to be postponed at least until 2028 due to the lack of necessary equipment and the high cost of its production in Poland.
Poland has signed a contract for the supply of 366 Abrams tanks to the United States, of which several dozen have been delivered.
It is expected that the entire order will arrive in Poland by the end of 2026. Despite the scale of the purchase, when it was completed, maintenance of the engines of these tanks in Poland was not provided, notes "Dzennik gazeta Pravna".According to Polish military expert Jacek Goszczynski, Abrams is equipped with engines that require specialized maintenance, which is possible only at certified aircraft factories.
"Unfortunately, these requirements were not taken into account when deciding on the purchase of these tanks," he told reporters, adding that currently tanks are serviced exclusively in the United States, including at a military facility in Anniston, Alabama.
Warsaw has long reported that it plans to create its own authorized service center, but this project is complex and requires significant financial resources, Goszczynski notes.
The newspaper adds that if everything goes according to plan, the first repair of Abrams engines in Poland will be possible only in 2028. Until that time, all repair work will be carried out by American enterprises.
