Alaska is a good choice for the summit of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, because it makes it possible to reliably distance itself from the influence of Europe. This was stated in a comment to the Rossiya-24 TV channel by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov.
"The venue (of the meeting. — EADaily) it was unexpected for me — Alaska. I think that for many it was a very unexpected option... from the point of view of our bilateral relations, we are neighbors. We are separated from America in the Alaska region by only 80-90 kilometers, and in the closest places between our islands up to 4 kilometers. Logistics is such that the issue of obtaining permission to fly, say, through Europe, other countries, disappears by itself. We don't need that. And we are also far from Europe," Dzhabarov said, quoted by TASS.
Thus, the choice of Alaska as the venue for the meeting of the leaders of Russia and the United States is also successful in terms of the impact on the negotiation process of third countries, the senator noted.
"Here we are far away and from Ukraine, from Western Europe, has the opportunity to calmly discuss all the pressing problems," he explained.
