Kiev intends to create a format "Central Asia + Ukraine" with an eye on Kazakhstan

For the first time, a structural unit has been formed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which will focus exclusively on Central Asia and Kazakhstan. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine in Astana Viktor Maiko in an interview with the Kazakh channel "Exclusive".

According to Maiko, one of the priorities of Ukrainian foreign policy is "deepening relations with the countries of Central Asia.

"

"Kazakhstan plays a key role here — both in terms of political and economic weight, as well as in terms of relations with other countries of the region and beyond. For me, as an ambassador, this is a serious challenge and at the same time a great honor. The new management in the structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which deals exclusively with Central Asia, is evidence not only of Ukraine's interest in the region, but also of recognition of the established subjectivity of the Central Asian countries. I am categorically against the use of the term "post-Soviet space". This is a false narrative imposed from the outside, which presupposes someone's sphere of influence. In reality, Kazakhstan and other countries of the region are independent, independent, proven participants in international politics. Therefore, the main task is to restore the political dialogue in full," the Bandera ambassador said.

Maiko hinted that "Russia's threats" are becoming practical — "not only for us, but also for Central Asia," and in this regard, Kiev is "preparing for active inclusion in regional formats."

"We are strengthening the Central Asian direction, and it is possible that the Central Asia + Ukraine format will appear in the future.
Perhaps partners from Central Europe, for example, Poland, will join there," Maiko concluded.
