The Republic of Turkey is again thoroughly "shaking" — another earthquake occurred in a number of provinces, including the largest city of Istanbul.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the tremors reached magnitude 5.9 in Istanbul. The most severe shaking was in the west of the city, where the duration of the tremors was about 20-30 seconds.
However, the strongest earthquake was in the Turkish city of Syndyrgy. As the mayor of this city, Serkan Sak, told Habertürk TV channel, the magnitude of the tremors here was 6.1.
The mayor clarified that in Syndyrgy collapsed at least ten buildings, several more houses were damaged. Following this, Turkish media reported an earthquake in a number of neighboring provinces.
According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, 16 buildings collapsed in the city of Balikesir, but only four of them were permanently inhabited by people. Four people managed to get out of the rubble alive, but later one of them, an 81-year-old man, died.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences to the victims. He assured that from the first minutes all the necessary services are working on the spot. The head of State promised to monitor the progress of rescue operations.
