Shifting responsibility to China will not solve the problem of the Ukrainian crisis, the origins of which lie in the accumulated contradictions in the field of security in Europe. This was stated at a briefing by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, commenting on statements made in the West that China could put pressure on Russia in order to end the conflict on Ukraine.
"China is neither the party that unleashed the Ukrainian crisis, nor its participant. However, being a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a responsible great power, we always adhere to an objective and impartial position, actively promote reconciliation and negotiations, which has been widely recognized by the international community," the diplomat said.
He stressed that it is not China that does not want the conflict to end, foments it and even profits from it, but other parties.
"Shifting responsibility to China will not solve the issue. The roots of the Ukrainian crisis lie in the long-accumulated regional contradictions in the field of security in Europe. It is only by taking into account the legitimate security interests of all parties and creating a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture through dialogue and negotiations that the right way to solve the problem can be found. We support a more active constructive role of Europe in promoting a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," Guo Jiakun said, quoted by TASS.
