The confiscation of frozen Russian assets would be a violation of international law and the beginning of complete chaos. This was stated in an interview with CBS by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"As for frozen assets, we are all very committed to complying with international rules. And you cannot withdraw these assets from the central bank even in such a situation. I think this is a matter of trust, and it is very important that our countries respect international law," Macron said, quoted by the Country newspaper.
The French leader noted that disrespect for international laws would be the beginning of complete chaos, adding that "we are predictable and will not do the impossible with these frozen assets."
As reported by EADaily, the EU is discussing ways to use frozen Russian assets to support a "reparations loan" to Ukraine in order to circumvent the risk of a veto from Moscow-friendly Hungary. This was reported by Reuters, citing officials close to the project.
