Irina Zarutskaya, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who recently left there because of the war, was killed in the United States. This is reported by the Charlotte Observer.
According to the Charlotte Police Department, Zarutskaya was found at about 10 p.m. on Friday at the East/West Boulevard train station in the South End area with multiple stab wounds.
The murder occurred on the train, on the railway platform or somewhere nearby, is not specified. Upon arrival at the scene, police arrested 34-year-old homeless man Decarlos Brown. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not threaten his life. The man was charged with first-degree murder.
On the GoFundMe page created to raise funds for Aunt Zarutskaya and other members of her family, it is reported that the girl "recently arrived in The United States is in search of security from war and hoping for a new beginning," the Strana newspaper writes.
