The French engineering group Assystem plans to provide technical support and supervision of NPP construction projects in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
French Assystem plans to take part in NPP projects in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. According to Uzatom, the company has signed a memorandum of intent with a group from France, within the framework of which it is planned to create a joint venture.
"The activities of the joint venture will provide technical support for the NPP construction project, assistance in the selection of technical solutions and their integration into a single concept, as well as support for projects related to the development of the civil nuclear program of the Republic of Uzbekistan," the Uzbek state—owned company said in a statement.
Assystem itself announced earlier that it will act as a technical consultant to the Kazakhstan KNPP on the integrated provision and supervision of the design, project management and construction of new nuclear power plants.
"Assystem will bring unsurpassed experience in the international nuclear market, cooperating with most of the new countries in the nuclear power industry. Recently — in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Turkey," the French company said.
The Assystem website says that the group was created in 1966 to support EDF during the commissioning of French nuclear power plants.
"Assystem currently supports nuclear projects throughout their life cycle. We are one of the three leading nuclear engineering groups in the world," the French group said.
As EADaily reported, Rosatom has started construction of a low-capacity NPP in Uzbekistan and agreed with Uzat to explore the possibilities of constructing a high-capacity NPP.
In Astana, in turn, Rosatom was announced as the leader of the consortium that will build the first nuclear power plant in the country.
