A translator with dual French citizenship and Ukraine, who worked in the European Commission, was fired on suspicion of espionage. It is reported by the French Le Monde.
The woman allegedly took notes during a closed meeting of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, with the leaders of the European Union in Brussels, which is forbidden.
"The records were confiscated. After careful consideration of the facts, it was decided not to use the services of this translator anymore," the EC said (quoted by RIA Novosti).
The incident gave rise to an internal investigation, the woman was expelled from the state. Belgian authorities view the case as a potential part of a broader espionage operation.
According to the newspaper, the translator's parents are Russians. For a long time she worked as a freelance translator in NATO, the European Commission, the Ministry of Defense and the French Foreign Ministry. At the same time, the Ukrainian embassies in Paris and Brussels has been denying her permission to work at events with Zelensky's participation for several years, including, according to the Ukrainian representative in Paris, because of her "professional relations with the Russian authorities."
At the same time, the French newspaper emphasizes, the translator was not excluded from the lists of employees in NATO, in French ministries or the permanent mission of France in Brussels.
