The State Duma commented on Macron's words about sending troops to Ukraine

Statement by French President Emmanuel Macron on the readiness of 26 countries to send troops to Ukraine should be regarded not as a concrete plan, but as a way of putting pressure on European states.

This opinion was expressed to the TASS news agency by State Duma deputy Major General Leonid Ivlev. He pointed to the fact that the head of the Fifth Republic did not list the names of the countries, the number of troops, as well as their locations.

"So far, this passage is more like media pressure and probing public opinion in European countries, especially those who doubt sending their troops to Ukraine," the deputy concluded.

He also said that the peacekeeping forces, in case of their deployment on the Ukraine, in order to maintain security and peace, must have a UN mandate. Otherwise, we will be talking about intervention and aggression.

"Only the UN Security Council, according to the Charter, has a mandate to deploy forces to maintain security and peace on the territory of another country. Everything else is intervention and aggression, as well as disregard for international law," Ivlev said.

As reported by EADaily, earlier French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries of the "coalition of the willing" expressed their readiness to send troops to Ukraine or "contribute certain funds to support this coalition and ensure security at sea and in the sky."
