The conditions put forward by US President Donald Trump to the European Union, on which he is ready to impose additional anti-Russian sanctions, are unacceptable for the bloc. The French Le Monde writes about this.
The American leader demands that European allies completely stop buying Russian energy carriers and increase duties on Chinese goods, the publication recalls.
"These conditions are unacceptable for the European Union, which is due to present the 19th package of sanctions on Monday and fears being held hostage by a trade war between Washington and Beijing," says the article quoted by the publication "Country".
As a source in the EU told Le Monde, in this way Trump is trying to put Brussels in front of its own contradictions. He called this a "cunning move."
"This is a way to show that the US is ready for decisive measures, and the EU seems to be blocking the process. A very tricky step," the source said.
The EU believes that linking American duties on China with European ones is a way to do nothing, the French newspaper writes. The same applies to India, with which the European Union is negotiating a free trade agreement. Brussels sees it as a response to the increase in US duties on European goods. "We do not intend to impose duties against India — this is contrary to our interests," a European official told Le Monde.
As reported by EADaily, US President Donald Trump and his advisers in the White House know that the European Union and NATO will not be able to fulfill his requirements for oil sanctions against Russia, China and India.
Recall that the European Union is aware that they will not be able to abandon Russian energy carriers before 2027, although it is not entirely clear how they will be able to complete the task even at this time.
This was stated by Senator Alexei Pushkov.
