Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that the Russian S-400 air defense systems alone would not be enough for his country to meet all the needs of air defense. He told this to journalists of his pool on his return from The Hague, where the North Atlantic Alliance summit was held.
"The air defense system is not limited to the S-400. And our public opinion has clearly understood this in recent days [in connection with the conflict in the region]. We need to create a multi-level air defense system complex. It is very important to have missiles [to work] at different altitudes and that they work in harmony," Anadolu agency quoted Erdogan as saying.
He noted that Turkey has made significant progress in missile capabilities, but it is insufficient.
"We are building a unified system, the Steel Dome. We are combining multi—altitude air defense systems, sensors, electronic warfare systems that we have developed on our own," Erdogan said, according to TASS.
