The Moldovan Embassy in Moscow was denied access to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova detained by the FSB on charges of espionage. This was announced today, June 25, by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chisinau.
"The Moldovan Embassy in Moscow requested the consul's access to several detained Moldovan citizens, but the Russian side refused," the press release says.
The department emphasizes that "the allegations of the Russian authorities that citizens The RM are associated with the special services, are unfounded and speculative," and note that the necessary diplomatic steps are currently being taken to provide them with the necessary consular assistance.
In this context, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry has once again issued a recommendation to fellow citizens to refrain from traveling to Russia. They claim that "an increasing number of Moldovan citizens are being persecuted, intimidated or mistreated on the territory of this country."
"This behavior reflects the systemic policy of the Russian authorities towards Moldovan citizens. Moreover, information about such abuses has already appeared in the public space before," the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Recall, two agents of the Moldovan special service who were preparing to conduct covert operations were detained in Moscow. They arrived in Russia under cover documents to carry out a mission against the country's security. Now they are giving confessions. They were recruited, trained and supervised personally by the head of the Main Directorate of Foreign Intelligence of the Information and Security Service (SIB) Alexander Syrbu, and the officer of the Main Directorate of Foreign Intelligence of the SIB Adrian Popescu was responsible for the transfer.
As EADaily reported, the Moldovan authorities have introduced the practice of detaining all Russian citizens arriving in the country at the Chisinau airport. After a humiliating check and interrogation with partiality, most are denied entry to the republic on the formal grounds of "the purpose of the visit has not been confirmed." At the same time, employees of the Russian embassy are not granted access in order to provide consular support to compatriots.
