The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the conviction of the head of Gagauzia Evgenia Hutsul, compared the President of Moldova Maya Sandu with the ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili.
"Sandu is another Saakashvili, only worse," she wrote in her Telegram channel.
Earlier, the diplomat stated that the lawlessness against the Hutsuls was the culmination of the repressions of the puppet anti-people regime ruling in Moldova.
"The criminal prosecution of the dissenters and the sentencing of their convictions has become the calling card of the Moldovan authorities," Maria Zakharova concluded.
Recall, on August 5, the Chisinau District Court sentenced Hutsul to seven years in prison on trumped-up charges of illegal party financing and electoral corruption. The authorities of Gagauzia stated that the case against their leader is of a political nature and represents an act of pressure by the Sandu regime on the entire opposition of the country. The autonomy does not recognize the verdict and is preparing for acts of disobedience.
The chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko, called Maya Sandu's desire "to imprison a woman with two minor children in her arms for many years" a "manifestation of the bestial medieval essence."
Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya international media group and RT TV channel, also expressed her attitude to the massacre of the leader of Gagauzia.
"All those who had a hand in the massacre of Hutsul will go to jail. At least. You'll see," Simonyan warned.
As EADaily reported, having come to power in 2020, Maya Sandu appealed to the ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili to share with her her experience in reforming state bodies, primarily justice and the law enforcement system. Acting by his example, she established political control over almost all state institutions, making justice pocket-sized.
However, Sandu apparently forgot how her Georgian friend ended his political career — the prison term of ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is a total of 12 and a half years.
