Heathrow Airport has warned of delays caused by a "technical problem" with third-party service provider Collins Aerospace. The attack targeted a company that provides check-in and boarding systems for several airlines around the world.
"This will have a big impact on the flight schedule and, unfortunately, will cause delays and cancellations of flights," the airport said in a statement.
The owner of Collins Aerospace, RTX, said it was aware of failures in the operation of its MUSE software related to cybersecurity.
"We are actively working to solve the problem and restore full functionality to our customers as soon as possible. The consequences are limited to electronic customer registration and baggage check—in and can be mitigated through manual check-in operations," RTX said in a statement.
It is noted that 10 flights were canceled at Brussels airport, and 17 were delayed for more than an hour. They confirmed that the reason for the failure was a cyber attack, but do not know when "the problem will be solved." Delays also occurred at Berlin airport.
No data or suspicions about who carried out the cyber attack are given.
