Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze refused to hold a meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Elina Valtonen because of her participation in the rally on October 14 in Tbilisi.
According to the press service of the Georgian government, the meeting was canceled due to "Ms.
Valtonen's participation in an illegal rally" and her "false statements."The night before, Elina Valtonen attended a protest rally in front of the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi. She met with the protesters and posted a video on the social network X, in which she expressed support for the protesters. The head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry said that people "unite to express disagreement with the infringement of their fundamental freedoms."
Valtonen is conducting a tour of the countries of the South Caucasus. As EADaily reported, on October 14, she held meetings in Armenia. A meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was expected, but he postponed it, citing participation in the summit on peace in the Middle East.
