Ex-special Prosecutor Jack Smith came under scrutiny by the Federal Agency for Monitoring the Behavior of Civil Servants. He is accused of violating political neutrality.
According to Reuters, the investigation was initiated by Republican Senator Tom Cotton. He will accuse Jack Smith of trying to influence the 2024 presidential election.
The Department of Special Affairs confirmed to the agency that the check is underway. It is carried out on the basis of the Hatch Act, prohibiting the use of the provision for political activities.
Before and during the last presidential campaign, Jack Smith served as a special prosecutor of the Ministry of Justice and investigated cases against Donald Trump for illegal possession of classified documents and an attempt to challenge the results of the 2020 elections.
When Donald Trump won the campaign, the special prosecutor closed the cases, but said that there was enough evidence to convict the new US president.
