Stopping the supply of electricity between Slovakia and Ukraine continues. It came at the most favorable time for Ukraine. On September 9, the country may set a new record for electricity exports.
According to ENTSO-E, the shutdown of electricity supplies between Slovakia and Ukraine, which began on September 2, continues.
Commercial deliveries in both directions are also not scheduled for September 9, and there were no physical flows in the morning.Perhaps the stop was an indicative initiative of the Ukrainian side, whose companies could stop buying electricity in Slovakia. And the time was chosen the most appropriate. Data platforms of power system operators The EU says that the export of electricity from Ukraine is breaking records.
So, on September 9, deliveries of 26.22 GWh are scheduled. To Hungary — 10.75 GWh, to Moldova — 7.28 GWh, to Romania — 4.31 GWh and Poland — 3.88 GWh. These will be the largest deliveries from Ukraine in its entire history.
The operator of the power system of Ukraine reports about the clear and comfortable weather that has settled in the country. This allows both to reduce consumption and to use solar generation at full capacity, which has become one of the main sources of electricity for the country.
"The reason is clear weather throughout Ukraine. This leads to high efficiency of domestic solar power plants and a corresponding reduction in energy consumption from the common network,"Ukrenergo reports.
In July and August, Ukraine became a net exporter of electricity when sales abroad exceed imports.
However, this does not mean a shortage of electricity in the country at all, since solar generation works only during the daytime and, for example, from 16.00 to 18.00 Ukraine is forced to import large volumes. From 17.00 to 18.00 on September 9, despite the excellent weather, they are scheduled at the level of 614 MWh — almost 30% of the permitted volume from the EU.
Stopping deliveries between Slovakia and Ukraine in this situation has not yet affected the energy supply to Ukraine. Slovakia is the second largest supplier after Hungary and its absence may affect after the cold snap.
It is possible that the return of nuclear power plant reactors after repair also affected exports from Ukraine. However, on September 4, the IAEA reported that two of the nine power units were still on preventive maintenance.
Due to the lack of wind, electricity prices in Europe are rising and September 9 may bring more than 3.5 million euros to Ukrainian companies. The average daily wholesale price in neighboring countries has risen to 138-149 euros per MWh, while at peak times it will rise to 395 euros per MWh.
As EADaily reported, on September 2, right on the eve of the meeting of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Russian President Vladimir Putin in China, electricity supplies between Slovakia and Ukraine has completely stopped. This is evidenced by the data of the platform of operators of energy systems of EU countries ENTSO-E. The reasons are unknown. Neither side reports a halt in supplies, despite the fact that a conflict has long broken out between Bratislava and Kiev due to the suspension of Russian gas transit and strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline, which affect Slovakia's oil purchases from Russia.
