Interesting news comes from Greenland. A huge iceberg is approaching the shore of one of the local villages. Perhaps this is exactly the case when evacuation of the population is needed. Details are provided by the New York Post newspaper.
The Greenland village of Innaarsuyt with a population of 160 people may soon encounter a huge iceberg.
For several days now, an unusually large frozen mass has been moving towards the shore of the settlement. Now it is only a few dozen meters from residential buildings and the Royal Greenland factory. In this regard, local authorities warned residents and tourists about the need to "exercise extreme caution and, if possible, get to the settlement and back in the safest possible way."Local media reported that the length of the glacier is 250 meters, width — 180 meters, and its mass is estimated at about 11 million tons.
The New York Post reports that if an iceberg touches the shore or breaks up near it, it can cause significant damage to infrastructure and pose a threat to the inhabitants of the island. Such a scenario is quite likely. Emergency response officer Bjarne Marcussen said that the iceberg is moving downstream and it is to the shore.
There is a possibility that a change in weather conditions will force him to sail away, but if this does not happen, the island's authorities are considering calling the Danish forces stationed in Greenland.
"Local emergency services are already ready to intervene if necessary," the statement sent to residents emphasizes.
