Russia's dependence on gas turbines manufactured by Western companies has been known for a long time. Inter RAO is exploring the possibility of its own production of equipment.
"We are considering the possibility of producing gas turbines in the next five years, and the project is currently being actively worked out. We are considering various scenarios for the production of turbines of both medium power and high power. The launch of such production is a large—scale work, and the final decision will be made after a detailed study," Inter RAO CEO Sergey Dregval said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, TASS reports.
In his opinion, the power engineering in Russia has great prospects, taking into account plans for the construction and modernization of generation facilities.
"Objectively, there are still some difficulties with gas turbines, but all these difficulties can be solved," said Sergey Dregval.
The first localized high-power gas turbine produced by Silmash will be operated at Kashirskaya GRES, the head of Inter RAO added.
