In Ukraine, almost all American M1 Abrams tanks transferred to Kiev have been destroyed. This is reported by the American magazine The National Interest.
"A staggering 87% of the Ukrainian fleet of M1 Abrams main battle tanks (MBT) have been destroyed, captured or lost since this series was first put on the front line. .. According to Military Watch Magazine, 27 of the 31 vehicles delivered to Kiev are no longer in service," the publication says.
Despite the fact that the Abrams MBT series is considered one of the most complex and reliable armored vehicles in service today, this platform is experiencing difficulties on Ukraine, the publication complains. A lot of problems, ranging from the lack of Ukraine's aviation and artillery support and lack of technical and mechanical knowledge, ending with a shortage of manpower and equipment, made Abrams ineffective on the battlefield.
Despite the capabilities of Abrams, older M1 models delivered to Ukraine, struggled to survive against Russia's more advanced arsenal of anti-tank weapons. "Most of the Abrams tanks that were destroyed or otherwise neutralized were hit by guided artillery or disposable kamikaze drones, although it was confirmed that one Abrams was destroyed by a Russian T-72B3 tank after they exchanged fire near Avdiivka," Military Watch Magazine quotes.
The National Interest notes that since kamikaze drones are cheaper and more affordable, the Russian Armed Forces will most likely rely on their stocks of drones to continue to strike at the Ukrainian MBT fleet.
