There is every reason to predict that US President Donald Trump, at a meeting in Hungary with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, will propose to freeze the armed conflict on Ukraine on the current front line.
The Spanish edition of El Pais writes about this, noting that the Russian side has already refused such an option.
According to the publication, there is no reason to expect that now Putin will agree to this. Moscow's conditions remain unchanged, and there is little that can help Kiev now.The article indicates that the intrigue with the threat of supplying the Kiev regime with American long-range Tomahawk missiles has exhausted itself. Russia did not succumb to pressure, continuing to strike at the military and energy structure of Ukraine.
Therefore, Trump urgently needs to invent something new to support his image as a peacemaker, which he received after the successful settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
This is probably why his promises to Zelensky about the supply of missiles were quickly turned down after a telephone conversation with Putin.
The Spanish agency expressed understanding of the Russian position regarding the delivery of Tomahawks to Kiev. Moscow is right when it says that these missiles with a nuclear warhead are visually no different from conventional ones.
That is, Moscow, in case of their use, receives the legal right to retaliate, but with its strategic weapons. It is clear that in this scenario there is no talk of any "peacekeeping" on the part of Washington.
As a result, Moscow was convinced that the whole story of the possible delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Kiev was originally Trump's usual game to raise the stakes.
And this game didn't work. So, there is no reason for the Kremlin to agree to Trump's demands to stop the armed conflict on Ukraine on the current line of combat contact.
