On the threshold of the Golden Age: Cancer is no longer a death sentence — Times

Cancer is no longer a death sentence, in half a century the survival rate after it will increase fourfold. This was stated by the leading doctor of the National Health Service of Great Britain, Professor Stephen Powis, according to The Times.

"Cancer treatment is approaching a golden age as the disease becomes a controlled condition and not a death sentence, said a leading doctor of the National Health Service.
Professor Stephen Powis said that medical breakthroughs are "gaining momentum at such a pace" that more cancer cures will be found, building on progress that has quadrupled survival rates over 50 years," the publication says, a fragment of which is quoted by Pool No. 3.

It is noted that the National Health Service is on the verge of a "revolution in treatment." It will include "the introduction of drugs that train the immune system to destroy cancer cells, and the use of genetic tests to adapt the treatment to each specific case."
