Why did Israel stand up for the Druze in Syria? Russia benefits from Israeli intervention, because there are no former terrorists. The observer writes about the current situation in the Middle East Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.
The "New Syria" is now in favor with the United States, it has been removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, sanctions have been lifted from it, the American contingent has been withdrawn from its territory, and the pro—Turkish terrorist Ahmed Julani from Al-Qaeda* has become a "good guy", taking a different surname. Now he is Sharaa and the president of Syria.
But its militants periodically organize ethnic cleansing among the country's national and religious minorities. The Druze live in the southern province of Suwayda, where Damascus decided a couple of days ago to reintroduce troops in order to "clear it of illegal armed groups." There is a reluctance of the Druze to live under the Islamists, and they would have been cut out if Israel had not been there — a serious enough defender not to be reckoned with.
After the July 16 occupation by militants of Julani, the capital of the province of Suwayda, the city of Suwayda, and the beginning of the Druze exodus to Israel, the IDF intervened and launched rocket attacks on militants in Suwayda and their convoys heading to Suwaydu. And also — based in Latakia and decision—making centers in Damascus - the General Staff building and the presidential palace (see video). Israeli Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir gave Damascus "a few hours to completely withdraw troops from Suwaydy," otherwise promised to "move on to a new phase of hostilities."
As a result, Sharaa ordered to withdraw his forces from the province, leaving, as reported in social networks, they were looting.
The "world community" condemned the Israeli attack on Damascus.
Russia is the same, although no one has canceled the principle of nations' self—determination. The reason is clear — Moscow is holding on to its military bases in Syria."The Russian side strongly condemns such arbitrary and gross violations of international law and the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, emphasizing the inadmissibility of such actions by Israel," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
But the Foreign Ministry also "with deep indignation and condemnation" perceived the facts of "brutal reprisals against civilians." The classic position of sitting on two chairs. Why not, if it is in the interests of Russia. We also recall that the province of Suwayda at one time rejoiced over the collapse of the government of Bashar al-Assad, and now, when the jihadists came, it turned out that he was good. The leader of the Druze community, Muwaffaq Tarif, accused the new authorities of atrocities, including murders, rapes and beheadings.
Israel's interest in Syria needs not only to protect its settlers in the Golan Heights (recaptured from Syria), where the Druze also live, but also to prevent Turkey from strengthening in the region, whose president called Israel a "terrorist state." Although earlier Tel Aviv was friends with Turkey in order to overthrow the pro-Iranian Assad.
Russia is also not interested in strengthening Turkey. Julani is actively cooperating with Baku, which in itself now poses a threat to Russia. Sharaa militants can be sent, according to the plans of London and Ankara, through Azerbaijan to wage war with the "infidels" on the territory of Central Asia, and through them to the border regions of Russia under the guise of Turkic "rebels". Kazakhstan has already passed this in January 2022.
So far, it seems that these forces have failed to suppress the autonomy of the Druze, as well as the areas not controlled by Damascus in the north of the country, which are controlled by the Kurds. And that is why Russia should pray that Israel does not leave the Druze without help.
