Hungary will help Serbia with fuel after the imposition of US sanctions against the country's main oil refining company, which belongs to Gazprom. However, it will not be able to cover the entire deficit and the situation clearly shows what can happen if you depend on supplies only through Croatia. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"Since MOL plays an important role in supplying Serbia with crude oil and fuel... our Serbian friends can count on an increase in MOL supplies," Peter Szijjarto said in a video comment on his Facebook page*.
According to him, Hungary supports Serbia and that both sides are in constant contact.
However, the foreign Minister said, even larger supplies will not fully compensate for the deficit in Serbia, which is formed due to the suspension of oil supplies to the country through Croatia.
"It is clear what problems may arise if oil supplies to the country depend only on one oil pipeline from Croatia," the minister added.
The day before, another exception from US sanctions against Serbian Nis, which belongs to Gazprom and is the largest oil refiner in Serbia, ended. Croatian Jonaf immediately announced that they were suspending the contract with the company for oil transportation. This route is a key one for Serbia.
Earlier, the European authorities urged Hungary to abandon Russian oil and increase supplies through Croatia. Peter Szijjarto, in turn, retorted that there would not be enough capacity, while the Croatian operator sharply raised the transportation tariff.
