Outstanding commander: Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov will extend his service life — Mass media

The term of service of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, 70-year-old Army General Valery Gerasimov, will be extended. This is reported by Vedomosti, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense.

Izlanie recalls that Valery Gerasimov was appointed chief of the General Staff — First Deputy Minister of Defense in November 2012 almost simultaneously with the appointment of Minister Sergei Shoigu, who was dismissed from May 2024 and became Secretary of the Security Council.

Gerasimov for all the post—Soviet time served in this post longer than all other chiefs of the General Staff - almost 13 years.

According to military expert Ivan Konovalov, the fact that General Gerasimov has been continuously commanding military operations in the special operation zone since its beginning may show that the country's leadership approves of his work.

As EADaily reported, on the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov with the Order of Courage. In patriotic social networks, this decision caused confusion and a lot of criticism.

"The decree... But the whole army (and a significant part of the country) is waiting for another decree of the Supreme. And he will definitely be. The only question is HOW HE WILL!!!" — voenblogger Yuri Podolyaka wrote in TK.
